About Us
The Child Health Services at the Royal Cornwall Hospital look after infants, children and young people with a huge range of conditions and illnesses. We look after children from as soon as they are born, in our neonatal unit, right through to adolescence when we help them transition to our adult services if they still need care and treatment. We also support children and young people in the community who have a significant disability or vulnerability.
In one area you will find Polkerris ward which is a specialist children’s ward with 12 beds for children aged 0 to 11. There is also a High Dependency area and Paediatric Admissions unit within this area.
In another area, there is Fistral Unit an inpatient ward with 12 beds for teenagers aged 12-16 years and our Day Case ward called Harlyn. The Clic Unit can be found here also and is made up of 4 cubicles dedicated to all oncology and haematology children and teenagers aged from 0-16 years. Within the hospital, there is a Teenage and Young Adult service that supports patients and their families aged 16 to 24 with a cancer diagnosis. Paediatric Outpatients is called Gwithian on the 4th floor of The Tower Block and this is where clinics including oncology are held.

Free parking is available for blue badge holders, frequent attenders and parents of sick children staying overnight. A member of the ward or department team will need to call the General Office or Saba lodge to give verbal authorisation in advance of the patient or visitor making the request.
All children with an oncology/ haematology diagnosis will receive a car parking permit that will allow for them to have free hospital parking. This will be provided to you by your Paediatric Oncology Outreach Nurse.
