Your Choice: Location of Care
Musgrove Park Hospital, part of Somerset Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, is one of six designated hospitals across the South West region approved for providing specialist age-appropriate care for young people with cancer. Depending on the type of cancer you have, it may be possible for you to have treatment Musgrove Park, closer to home.
If you are between 16 and 24 years of age you should be offered the choice to receive treatment in Bristol, or more locally in your regional designated hospital, Musgrove Park, depending on treatment required.
Your doctor or clinical nurse specialist (CNS) will be happy to discuss this with you, and if you would like them to, they can arrange a visit to the unit in Bristol or Musgrove Park, to see the facilities and meet the team.
TYA Peer Support Group: TYA peer support group takes place approximately every 6-8 weeks. This is an opportunity to meet other young people who have experienced cancer, in a relaxed social environment held locally in Taunton.
Young people have access to a wide variety of events and activities including:
Ultimate Backstage Experience facilitated by Teenage Cancer Trust
Confidence building sailing trips facilitated by Ellen Macarthur Cancer Trust
Teenage and Young Adult beauty sessions facilitated by Look Good Feel Better, generally held in Bristol or Exeter
TYA Parents Support Group: A parents' support group takes place approximately every 3 months. This is an opportunity to meet other parents of young people in an informal setting.
End of Treatment Clinics: These take place approximately every 6 months. This is an opportunity for young people and those close to them to reflect on what they have been through, living with uncertainty and navigating life after treatment. These are held in conjunction with Exeter TYA, at the FORCE Centre in Exeter.
TYA Bereaved Parents Support Group: A bereaved parent support group takes place approximately every 3 months, giving the opportunity to meet other bereaved parents in a safe, supportive environment. These are held in conjunction with Exeter TYA, at the FORCE Centre in Exeter.

Willow Foundation: Special Days are bespoke experiences booked throughout the UK and they come in three different varieties:
Days Out - These are fun-packed day trips designed around your interests. Examples include a trip to a theme park, tickets to a sporting event, a day at the zoo and many more besides.
Breaks - This could be a short stay at a hotel or a longer break in self-catering accommodation – such as a holiday park or cottage.
At home - We also arrange experiences at home which could be an option for those who are less mobile or who find it hard to leave home. Your Special Day at home could be a party for you and your loved ones, a very special photoshoot to capture a precious family moment, a pamper day or a film party!
Teens Unite | Teen Cancer Support: peer support groups and activities, online and face to face
Ben Saunders Foundation: a holiday retreat in the Cotswolds.
Flynnes Barn: you can come together to find friends who are living through similar experiences and enjoy a variety of creative and outward-bound activities.
Youth Cancer Trust: Free wellbeing holidays (young person plus a friend/sibling/partner) and online support.
Blood Cancer UK | We're here to beat blood cancer Support for anyone worried about blood cancer with expert information and advice.
The Brain Tumour Charity: A charity offering a wide range of inclusive and accessible services for everyone affected by a brain tumour. They have a Young Adults Service for anyone aged 16-30 with a brain tumour diagnosis, which helps to connect you with others and supports you with any information you might need.
Sarcoma UK
A charity offering a range of support and information about sarcoma cancers. They have a Sarcoma UK Support Line that you can call or email, a list of local sarcoma support groups you can attend and a range of up-to-date information guides about sarcoma that you can view on their website.
