South West Principal Treatment Centre (PTC)
Whilst on the Bristol TYA unit you will remain under the care of your specialist consultant and team, however care is very much a team approach.
We have a specialist team of cancer professionals who will support you throughout and beyond your cancer diagnosis and treatment. The TYA team will respond to your emotional, social and practical needs, remembering that you are a young person and an individual. The team will work in a positive, flexible, creative way to meet your needs and understand what is most important to you. They can also support your family, friends, partner, tutors, colleagues... basically anyone who is supporting you and is also affected by what you are going through.
We see the young person first, cancer diagnosis second.
TYA Lead Clinician and Teenage Cancer Trust Lead TYA Cancer Nurse

Bristol TYA Clinical Psychologists
Clinical Psychologists provide psychological support for young people with cancer during their cancer treatment and for up to two years post treatment. This may be offered to you and/or your family, if you are struggling with difficult thoughts and feelings in relation to cancer. This may be adjusting to what having cancer means to you, managing uncertainty or the impact of your treatment (e.g. on relationships, self-esteem or body-image) or adjusting to the end of treatment.
If you think this would be beneficial, please speak to a member of the team. If your team thinks that you would benefit from a referral to a Clinical Psychologist, this will only be made after discussion and agreement with you.
